- Bureau County Historical Society Museum

This museum is housed in the Clark-Norris Mansion, which was built in 1900. Four floors of exhibits include: pioneer tools and utensils, military memorabilia, fossils and Native American artifacts, period clothing, antique vehicles and fire equipment and a geneology library.
- Colton Schoolhouse
P.O. Box 220, Princeton - 879-9151
Located on the Lovejoy Homestead, this school was built in 1949 and held classes until 1945. Today it is furnished as a typical example of the one room schoolhouse era.
- Hegeler Carus Mansion

This mansion, constructed in 1874, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mansion is the site of historic accomplishments in industry, philosophy, publishing and religion.
- Hume-Carnegie Museum

Located in a restored 1904 Andrew Carnegie library building, this museum is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the Medota area. It houses an extensive photographic collection, displays on Wild Bill Hickok and Helen Hokinson and over 3,000 items of memorabilia.
- Illinois & Michigan Canal Towpath, Biking and Walking Trail
The Trail on the old canal towpath is easy walking and gives access to unparalleled scenic and historic sights. Bicyclists can also take advantage of the groomed towpath to enjoy the natural and manmade wonders. The trail is marked and has various wayside exhibits that describe features of the canal era. In Utica there are new picnic shelters with charcoal grills and bike stands. A wonderful experience.
- Illinois Waterway Visitor Center

This center provides visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of the waterway and watch the operation of a lock and dam. (Winter - great eagle watching.)
- Indian Artifacts Display

This collection features items from over 13,500 years of Illinois history.
- LaSalle County Historical Society Museum
State Highway 178, Utica - 667-4861
This museum is housed in a restored pre-Civil War stone warehouse. Exhibits include period furnishings, clothing, farm tools, Indian artifacts, a century-old working blacksmith shop, 1875 barn and a one-room schoolhouse.
- Mendota Museum and Historical Society

This society is dedicated to preserving and protecting the history of the Mendota area through its three museums, the Hume-Carnegie, Union Depot Railroad, and Breaking the Prairie.
- Norwegian Settlers State Memorial/Norsk Museum

This museum is housed in what was once the First Norwegian Lutheran Church. Exhibits include artifacts and antiques that were brought to the area by Scandinavian immigrants.
- Ottawa Scouting Museum

This museum houses the Zitelman Collection, the Sullifan Collection and several other pieces of memorabilia from local donors including badges, pins, watches, canteens, dolls and a bicycle.
- Owen Lovejoy Homestead
U.S. Highway 6, P.O. Box 220, Princeton - 879-9151
Owen Lovejoy, acquaintance of Abraham Lincoln, opened his home as one of the most important stations on the Underground Railroad in Illinois. Today, the Homestead is on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Pulsifer House

This building of Greek Revival architecture was built in 1844 and is listed on the National Historic Register. It now houses the Putnam County Historical Society. (A lovely river town.)
- Putnam County Courthouse
Hennepin - 925-7560
This courthouse is the oldest courthouse currently in use in Illinois. It was built in 1839 and has been maintained in its original form.
- Red Covered Bridge
North of Interstate 80, off of Rte. 26, Princeton
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this bridge is one of six remaining covered bridges left in Illinois. It crosses Big Bureau Creek and was once part of the Peoria-Galena Trail.
 Reddick Mansion

This mansion was built before the Civil War. This structure has been known to be one of the most expensive and ornate Italianate residences every constructed in the Midwest during the mid-1800s.
- St. Patrick's Church

This is the state's oldest continually operating Catholic Church. The parish was founded in 1838 and the current structure was dedicated in 1851.
- Streatorland Historical Society Museum

This museum features Streatorland's most famous natives such as Clarence Mulford who wrote Hopalong Cassidy, Clyde Tombaugh who discovered the planet Pluto, George "Honeyboy" Evans who composed "The Good Old Summertime", Ed Plumb who directed the music for several Disney movies, and Bob Tattersall who was the King of Midget Car Racing.
- Union Depot Railroad Museum

This museum displays a large HO scale layout of 1930's Mendota, a static display of CB&O locomotive #4978, a 1900 telegraph office and memorabilia from the Burlington, Illinois Central, Milwaukee Railroads and Amtrak.
- W.D. Boyce Memorial
Ottawa Avenue Cemetary, Ottawa - 434-2737
This statue is dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America.
- Washington Square
Route 23, Ottawa - 443-2737
Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas stood in this square in 1858 to deliver the first of seven senatorial debates. A Civil War memorial was dedicated in 1873 to the many victims of this tragic war. Cannons from the Civil War and World Wars I and II also appear in the square.
- The Weber House and Garden

The Weber House features both a unique 18th Century style home and a spacious English garden. Personal tours are available by calling the above number. (Very nice!)
- Wild Bill Hickok State Memorial
Main Street, Troy Grove
This memorial marks the borthplace of the legendary frontier scount and U.S. Marshall "Wild Bill" Hickok.

This scenic park provides fishing, picnic shelters, tennis courts, a playground, boat launch and restrooms. A beautiful park along the Illinois River.
- Buffalo Rock State Park/Effigy Tumuli
Dee Bennett Road, Ottawa - 433-2224
One of the more unusual attractions in Illinois can be found at Buffalo Rock State Park, where an earth-art exhibit entitled "Effigy Tumuli" depicts wildlife native to the Illinois River area. Five giant sculptures—a snake, a turtle, a catfish, a frog and an insect called a water strider—have been molded into the Illinois landscape.

This center includes a gymnasium, swimming pool, weight room, sauna and a multi-purpose room. There are also organized programs, classes and activities.
- Catlin Park

A lovely out of the way County Park. There are deer in pens (they like to eat cereal as a treat). The park offers a playground, picnic shelters with tables, restrooms, hiking and mountain bike trails. Open May 1 through October 31. Daily 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.
- Dickinson Fields and House

This community center is expected to be open to the public in the fall of 1999. It will feature a fireplace, swimming pool, bowling lanes and meeting rooms.
- Hopalong Cassidy River Trail
Bridge Street, Streator - 672-2517
Named after the series by Clarence Mulford, this recreational area includes playground equipment, a hiking trail and canoe launch on the Vermilion River.
- Lake Kakusha

As a wildlife refuge, this 53-acre lake and its surrounding area is set aside for picnics, fishing, relazation, and enjoying nature.

This 68-acre park, which encompasses an 18-acre lake, offers game fishing, featuring a pier for handicapped access. It also provides picnic shelter, playgrounds, tennis and volleyball courts, baseball diamonds and soccer fields.
- LaSalle Lakes State Fish and Wildlife Area

This 2,058-acre cooling lake offers a wonderful area for fishing enthusiasts. It offers a concession stand, boat rental, bait and some tackle.

This site offers seasonal hunting opportunities on its 2,515 acres with 1,500 acres of timber. Hunters should be prepared for rugged terrain.
- Matthiessen State Park
Route 178, South of Utica - 667-4868
Matthiessen Park was named for Frederick William Matthiessen, a prominent industrialist and philanthropist from LaSalle. The park has 5 miles of trails, a field archery range, a radio-controlled model airplane field, and an equestrian campground for horseback riders. The park also has Matthiessen Lake. It is a great place for small children to learn about fishing. Children seem to catch fish one after the other. They'll keep Mom or Dad busy baiting the hook. (Matthiessen Park is our favorite park in the area.) Cross country skiing and rental equipment available all winter.

Memorial Park is a 6.2-acre park that features a lighted softball field, playground, Veterans Memorials and a concession stand.
Lehigh Park is a 27-acre wooded park area consisting of shelters for picnicking, playground, swimming, volleyball and bandshell.

This 98 acres of wildlife prairie offers picnicking, a shelter, playground and walking trails to enjoy its natural beauty.
